Review...
"Reality Is Not What It Used To Be" covers a lot of ground, with dense fabrics of electronics, Mellotron textures, sizzling tonalities, flute, guitars, the reliably twisted hurdy gurdy, loops and the barest of melodic/rhythmic elements. Some of it very minimal, ranging to the quite intense. 22 shorter (0'16" to 9'27") works that add up to a surreal trek with recurring themes and variations and a major 22 minute opus title track as the big mind-bender towards the end of disc 2.
The very nature of Triax as a purely improv trio means that nothing is certain during a typical afternoon and evening session. Of course, first off, it depends on what instruments Dave brings with him, and then what new samples, loops, patches and other such things are used. The mood of the day, the weather - all are factors. And the albums that result? Well, that depends on how much was recorded and what constitutes coherent works, or fragments that can be isolated, or the material that can be reconstructed. Sometimes it can be most of a session, or - as with the 2 sessions culled here - a lot of pieces that when shuffled, reconstructed, etc. can be re-crafted into an album that works.

First edition (quantity not specified) - released 1/1/2013.
