CHRIS CONWAY - SCANNING PLANET 3 (Auricle AMCDR 029) Many years ago Chris played me a formative conceptual work that he had based on the styles of Terry Riley and spacey Terje Rypdal. I insisted at the time that it was such a good idea that he should flesh it out as a full album. But, that was before the cheap home studio digital age, and Chris never got it together. It took well over a decade before Chris returned to the idea and decided to flesh it out with everything he could imagine, and create an album long suite that explored all sorts of world music styles and genres, all in an otherworldly cosmic framework. The Riley and Rypdal elements are present, along with touches of Stephan Micus, Alan Stivell, and even some Mike Oldfield.
